Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that, if not treated, can destroy the jawbone. Though some of the effects can be detrimental, it’s a fairly common and treatable disease. At Cresaptown Dental we can treat periodontitis and help restore your gums back to a healthy state.

What Causes Periodontal Disease?

The cause of periodontitis is usually the lack of proper oral hygiene. If you start to identify some of the symptoms associated with periodontal disease, ensure you are practicing proper hygiene and call your dentist immediately. The results of periodontitis are swollen, bleeding and bright red gums, loose teeth, receding gums, bad breath, toothache, and even tooth loss.

What Does the Treatment Entail?

Initially, there will be a detailed cleaning done to remove plaque that has calcified, as well as other toxins that have grounded themselves into the root surfaces. Though seemingly intense, this often causes little to no pain. At Cresaptown Dental, we are prepared to treat periodontitis. In worst case scenarios, teeth may need to be replaced. Consult your dentist to learn more about which route you should consider.
